a) About K4K

Kurling for Kids is a community fundraising event dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families by raising funds to allow children’s hospitals to provide leading-edge medical treatments, programs and equipment which would otherwise be out of reach.

Kurling for Kids participants curl in fundraising events together toward one common goal – providing better care for children.

It is the largest single-day, volunteer-led curling fundraising event in Canada in support of childen’s hospitals

The 2020 main event takes place on Saturday March 28, 2020, although other dates are also available for other clubs that want to join the Kurling for Kids family, as well as other dates for corporate events.

Kurling for Kids takes place in many different curling clubs and corporate locations in the Greater Montreal, Eastern Townships and Northern Quebec regions. We are always on the lookout for new clubs and corporate events to join our event.

Kurling for Kids is an entirely volunteer-driven event from the board members, club organizers and to all of the volunteers who give their time and efforts at each of our member clubs.

The incredible efforts of our volunteers help to keep costs down, which directs more money to Kurling for Kids to fund more life-saving equipment for the children!

Not at all, you can participate in Kurling for Kids in many different ways, as a participant/curler, as a fundraiser, as a volunteer. Kurling for Kids welcomes adults and children of all ages to take part in a Kurling for Kids event. You do not need to be a curler or a member of a club to participate as each club has on-site coaches to assist you and your team. Kurling for Kids is an excellent way to be introduced to the sport of curling and raise funds for a very worthy cause.

Can’t find an event near you? If you are unable to participate in-person at one of our club events, you can still help the children by registering as a K4K Fundraiser. Register at no charge as a team or as an individual and have access to the great fundraising tools available on the Online Participant Centre. Not only will you be helping to fund equipment that can save and improve lives of children, but you will also be eligible for fantastic incentive prizes!

No, you can register as a participant/curler, as a fundraiser, or as a volunteer. Registration options are:

  • Kurling for Kids participant: $50 registration fee (before March 15th 2020) and a minimum of $250 in fundraising [Note – Registration fee is $75 after March 15th];
  • Kurling for Kids team: $200 registration fee (before March 15th 2020) and a minimum of $1,000 in fundraising (for the whole team) [Note – Registration fee is $300/team after March 15th];
  • Kurling for Kids Fundraiser: no registration fee or minimum in fundraising (extra fees would apply if a K4K fundraiser would like to attend the supper at their participating club. Contact your Kurling for Kids Club Organizer for more details. You can find their contact information on your Kurling for Kids LOCATIONS page.);
  • Corporate Team: $2,000 registration fee and no minimum in fundraising (although you are definitely encouraged to fundraise more if you like!).

We would love to welcome your organization to Kurling for Kids!

Here’s how you can get involved if you’re with a company or organization: Start a team with your colleagues and include your company or organization name when you register.

You can also join our event as a Corporate team and gain extra exposure for your company/organization.

Participants are encouraged to register in teams of 4 although you can also register as an individual and we will find you a team.

Guests are welcome to encourage you at the Kurling for Kids event.

Contact your club organizer if you would like to invite others to join you for supper at your club’s event as there will be a small fee for the supper.

Everyone who participates in Kurling for Kids needs to raise a minimum of $250. When you put your mind to it you will be amazed how much you can raise for a cause that helps to improve the lives of our sick kids.

If you’re not able to raise the minimum amount of $250, you’re encouraged to make a donation to your personal fundraising page to top off what you’ve raised. We’re here to help you, though! Once you register for Kurling for Kids, we’ll send you coaching emails to help you meet and exceed your fundraising goal. Every year, hundreds of people like you raise at least $250 – there’s no reason you can’t too!.

As well, as long as your Kurling for Kids team has raised at least $1,000, it is ok although we encourage each participant to try and raise the minimum $250 each.

If you are having difficulty reaching your fundraising goal, please contact your Kurling for Kids Club Organizer who can support you in your fundraising efforts. You can find their contact information on your Kurling for Kids location page.

Since our inception in 1999, Kurling for Kids has purchased more than $3.7 million in equipment and services for the CHU Sainte Justine and Montreal Children’s hospitals.

In 2020, Kurling for Kids has extended its reach to include CHU Sherbrooke and all funds raised in events held in the Eastern Townships of Quebec will be used to purchase equipment for the pediatrics, maternity and neonatology departments at the Fleurimont Hospital of CIUSSS in Estrie – CHUS. Kurling for Kids is very pleased to be able to partner with the Fondation du CHUS with the goal of raising money to heal sick children in the region. This is a very important first step that Kurling for Kids is taking to become a province-wide, and ultimately a nation-wide, curling fundraiser on behalf of children’s hospitals, first across Quebec, and then Canada.

Yes. The Foundation’s charitable number is 83329 5249 RR0001. When you donate to Kurling for Kids, you will receive a tax receipt for any monetary donation of $20 or more. A tax receipt is not given if you purchase a raffle ticket.

Kurling for Kids does not canvass door-to-door. Nor, does the Foundation encourage volunteer participants to solicit funds by door-to-door canvassing.

Some Kurling for Kids club events may have participants fundraise in their communities as part of their fundraising efforts for their events.

If you are approached by a fundraiser who states that they are raising money for Kurling for Kids, please follow this advice:

  • If you know and trust the fundraiser and you want to make a donation, please donate by giving the fundraiser a cheque made out to the Kurling for Kids. Do not give cash.
  • If the fundraiser is unknown to you and you want to support Kurling for Kids, please visit our website at kurlingforkids.org for donation options.
  • If you are suspicious of a fundraiser, please take note of their appearance and contact your local police department.

 

No. Kurling for Kids will not share your information with any outside agencies/organizations or individuals without prior consent or, if the disclosure is permitted or required by law. For more information, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

If we don’t have an official Kurling for Kids event at your club, you can still be part of Kurling for Kids by registering, fundraising, or sponsoring an event at any of our participating locations.

Or, if curling isn’t for you, you can create an affiliate event of your own such as a spaghetti dinner, Zumbathon, bake sale or anything else that interests you.  Whatever you would like to do to help Kurling for Kids, you can recruit friends and family to join you in supporting the cause and making a difference. b) Registration

You can register as a participant/curler, as a fundraiser, or as a volunteer. Registration options are:

Select the Club from the dropdown menu where you would like to participate.

Next you will be able to select ‘Individual Registration’ if you are signing up as an individual, ‘Join an existing Kurling for Kids Team’ if you would like to join a team which already exists, or ‘Create a Kurling for Kids Team’ if you would like to be a captain of a new team.

Another option is to contact the team captain who can also register you on their team.

Absolutely!

You can register and pay for someone else. You can register as many people as you’d like, but you need to register everyone with their own unique email address.

As well, you can now register one or more members of your team at the same time! Just fill in your information completely and then click on SAVE & ADD ANOTHER PARTICIPANT

If any of your team members have already registered, you’ll be able to join the team from their personal fundraising page: Click HERE and select donate to a participant or team.

Search for any of your registered teammates, click on their name, and then you will be able to select JOIN TEAM.

From the same page, you could also do a search of all existing teams.

Unfortunately no as the event needs to be scheduled for the games between the participants so make sure to register in advance.

It’s better for you because you’ll have more time to reach your fundraising goal and if you take advantage of registering early enough you will have a chance to win a great early-bird prize just for registering.

Yes, there is a registration fee.

Early bird registration is $50 before March 15th and $75 afterwards.

Your registration fee helps to cover some of the costs of running Kurling for Kids, so that all of the money you receive in donations is used to help change the lives of children. Note that a portion of Kurling for Kids raffle ticket sales is used to cover the balance of costs.

Yes, everyone who participates in Kurling for Kids sets a fundraising goal of at least $250, and we’ll be here every step of the way to help you reach your goal!

All of the money that you raise will be used to change the lives of children treated at the hospitals which Kurling for Kids supports.

Make sure to send in your offline registration early enough so that you can take advantage of the early bird fee of $50 per participant before March 15th, or $75 afterwards.

Absolutely! By using the same username and password from the last time you participated in Kurling for Kids, you will have access to all of your fundraising information including donors from previous years.

Note – to use the same username and password, you must follow the 2020 registration process: click HERE to register today! Select the Club from the dropdown menu where you would like to participate.

Next you will be able to select ‘Individual Registration’ if you are signing up as an individual, ‘Join an existing Kurling for Kids Team’ if you would like to join a team which already exists, or ‘Create a Kurling for Kids Team’ if you would like to be a captain of a new team.  Then on the next screen, the left-hand-side of the screen will prompt you for your USERNAME and PASSWORD from your previous event and you will have access to all of your fundraising information including donors from previous years.

The best way to register your team is online by clicking on the REGISTER button.

Note that a team must ensure that each member registers at the same location.

As well, you can now register one or more members of your team at the same time!

Once you have selected your Kurling for Kids location, click on the REGISTER button.

From here you will be able to select ‘Join a K4K Team’ to join an existing team, or ‘Create a K4K Team’ if you want to start a new team.  

Another option is to contact the team captain who can register you on their team.

c) Teams

The maximum number of curlers per team is 4, but you can create a team of 5 and take turns curling.

You can create a team alone and your other team members can join your team afterwards.

Note – all participants must pay the individual registration fee.

Yes, any contribution of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt. As well it will count towards your team fundraising goal!

If a donor mistakenly donates to your team and would like to transfer the donation to an individual participant, the donor can contact us by email at [email protected].

d) Personal Fundraising pages

Your personal fundraising page contains customizable tools for emailing friends and family, tracking online donations, team status, and much, much more. Your Personal Page serves as your main communication piece to tell your story, appeal for sponsorship, and show your fundraising progress. This page will automatically be made public as part of the campaign.  Participants are able to customize content and images on their Personal Fundraising page.

Even if you are a returning participant, you must register for this year’s event first though so start first by registering HERE (register).

Once you have registered, click HERE (login) to login and start your fundraising!

If you are a returning participant, we’ve saved your personalized content from previous years so that you can reuse your images and messaging for this year. You can edit or update your image and messaging for this year by logging in and visiting your Fundraising Centre and personalizing your page.

 
Even if you are a returning participant, you must register for this year’s event first though so start first by registering HERE (register).

Once you have registered, click HERE (login) to login and start your fundraising!

Yes. If you registered as a Returning Participant with your previous username, all of your donor information will be available under the email contact section of your Fundraising Centre.

e) Offline Donations

Great job fundraising!

You will hand in all funds collected at your Kurling for Kids registration desk on the day of your event.

Envelopes will be available for you on the day of your event for you to document all funds raised and hand them in to your registration desk.

After we will update your personal fundraising page with your tally and your contributions will be counted in our grand total!

Offline donations are cash or cheques received during your fundraising which are not entered online.

Yes you can and this will ensure your online fundraising totals are up-to-date.

It’s as simple as clicking on the DONATE button and filling in the Donor’s name, email and address information.

Then you complete the transaction with your credit card.

Any offline donations entered by participants will automatically be reflected in their fundraising thermometers.

Note that these donations will only be confirmed by the system administrator when all funds have been handed in and confirmed. This will be completed by the end of May, 2020.

Online donations will be reflected automatically once a donation is made and completed.

f) Fundraiser Incentives

All participants in Kurling for Kids who individually raise $300 or more are eligible for the Fundraising Incentives + Rewards program. See the Info Sheet for Fundraisers and the Fundraising Rewards page for details on the levels and prizes.

No. The Fundraising Incentive level reached individually cannot be transferred to another participant.

No. Team fundraising totals are NOT eligible for Fundraising Incentives,  and they do not count towards an individual’s fundraising total.

Please allow 6 – 8 weeks after the April 25th, 2020 Kurling for Kids raffle draw for receipt of incentive prizes which will be delivered by mail to each participant.

Any offline donations entered by participants will automatically be reflected in their fundraising thermometers.

Note that these donations will only be confirmed by the system administrator when all funds have been handed in and confirmed.

This will be completed by the end of May, 2020.

All participants raising $300 minimum individually will be automatically entered in a draw for a chance to win a round-trip flight for two guests to any regularly scheduled Delta USA destination including Hawaii courtesy of Delta Airlines!

Fundraisers will receive one ballot upon reaching the $300 milestone and an additional ballot for every $250 raised above and beyond to a maximum of four ballots

The draw for a chance to win a round-trip flight for two guests to any regularly scheduled Delta USA destination including Hawaii courtesy of Delta Airlines will take place at the 2020 Volunteer Thank You Banquet scheduled for May 2nd, 2020.

h) Donations

First, thank you for your support!

There are many ways you can make a donation – you can support a participant, a team, a club or the main event.

If someone you know is participating in Kurling for Kids and you’d like to support their fundraising efforts, making an online gift is quick and easy!

Click on DONATE and type in the name of the participant, team or club in the appropriate field.

When you find the participant, team or club you are looking for, click on their name which will bring you to their personal fundraising page and then click on DONATE NOW.

Don’t want to make a donation online? Give your donation to the person, team or club you want to sponsor and they’ll fill out an offline pledge sheet for you.

 

If you donate online to a team, to yourself, another participant, a club or the main event you will automatically receive an electronic tax receipt by email.

Kurling for Kids will begin issuing tax receipts for offline donations following the raffle draw on April 25th, 2020.

They will be distributed no later than February 28th of the calendar year that follows the year of the donation but typically are done by June-July of each year.

All donations of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt.

No raffle ticket purchases are not eligible for tax receipts as you are receiving something for your purchase and are therefore not eligible for a tax receipt under Canada Revenue Agency guidelines

i) Volunteer

Absolutely! After the event, you will be given a statement outlining your volunteer hours during our event.

You can bring either the email you received when making your purchase or a printout of the web page after your purchase as they both have your transaction code.
Your K4K Registration desk will have up-to-date information about all purchased and will provide you with your t-shirt at your K4K event on March 28, 2020.

j) Raffle tickets

While a small portion of ticket sales goes to cover costs, the bulk of all funds raised from ticket sales goes to the children.

When you register online, your Kurling for Kids location organizer will contact you to arrange to get you tickets. Note that tickets are available on a limited basis and any tickets you have must be completely sold before you can receive more.

Raffle tickets are $5 each

Each booklet contains 25 tickets, and a total value of $125

The seller is responsible for all tickets, and is responsible for returning all unsold tickets, or the cash equivalent of any lost tickets.

The 2020 Kurling for Kids raffle will include 40,000 tickets with 15 prizes valued at more than $20,000!

Each participant can initially receive two (2) full booklets of tickets which have a value of $250.

Yes, when you purchase tickets one of the fields you must complete is “who are you buying tickets from”, simply select the name of the person who you wish to purchase tickets from and your transaction will be processed and the K4K participant will be advised.

The K4K participant in turn will coordinate with you to get you your tickets.

If you cannot find the name of the K4K participant, you can indicate the name in the field “Can’t find the name of the K4K participant”.

If the ticket purchase is simply to sponsor Kurling for Kids simply select Purchase from Main Event and Kurling for Kids will be in contact with you directly.

As well, all participants (kurlers, fundraisers, and corporate participants) that register online will be directed to a page with a link to the T-Shirt purchase page. And they will also receive a registration confirmation email with a link to the T-shirt purchase page. And finally, there is a link on each registered participant’s personal fundraising page in the LATEST NEWS section.
